The principal challenges for this site were firstly the plan form and secondly the prominent location at the eastern approach to the city of Edinburgh.
The result is a bold statement of material and form. Celebrating the surrounding landscape and the urban material. The context of the masonry buildings of Edinburgh with their faceted forms against the rising landscape backdrop of Arthur’s Seat aims at signalling the edge of the city centre.
A mixed development of residential flats above a commercial ground floor exploits fully the available site and resolves the complementing yet complex urban geometry typical of Edinburgh.
